Pour Gum Office, situé rue de Saintonge au cœur du Marais historique, le projet transforme sur trois niveaux un ancien hôtel particulier de bureaux en un espace de travail fluide, lisible et ouvert aux échanges.

Le bâtiment existant, vieillissant et fortement fragmenté, était composé d’une succession de demi-niveaux, de circulations complexes et d’espaces cloisonnés souvent privés de lumière naturelle. Le projet a nécessité une reprise complète des structures de plancher afin de réorganiser entièrement les volumes autour d’un nouvel escalier central desservant des plateaux clairs et continus.

Pensée pour une entreprise familiale spécialisée dans la gomme arabique, cette restructuration accompagne également une évolution de son image de marque : les espaces ont été conçus pour mettre en valeur les produits, recevoir clients et partenaires, et affirmer une identité plus contemporaine. Un travail particulier a été mené autour des matières, des textures et des teintes minérales, en écho aux origines africaines de la gomme arabique et aux paysages de terre dont elle est issue.

Au-delà de la rationalisation des flux et de l’intégration des contraintes techniques et réglementaires propres au tertiaire, le projet accorde une place essentielle aux espaces communs : grande cuisine et salle à manger partagée, salons informels et espaces plus confidentiels dédiés aux échanges ou au travail concentré.

Gum Office propose ainsi une nouvelle manière d’habiter le bureau, où efficacité, représentation et convivialité coexistent dans un même langage architectural

For Gum Office, located on Rue de Saintonge in the heart of the historic Marais district, the project transforms a former townhouse office building spread across three levels into a fluid, legible workspace designed to encourage interaction and collaboration.

The existing structure, ageing and highly fragmented, was composed of split levels, complex circulation paths and enclosed spaces often deprived of natural light. The project required a complete structural reconstruction of the floor systems in order to reorganize the entire layout around a new central staircase serving clear and continuous floor plates.

Designed for a family-owned company specializing in gum arabic, the renovation also supports the evolution of the brand’s image: the spaces were conceived to showcase products, welcome clients and partners, and express a more contemporary identity. Particular attention was given to materials, textures and earthy tones, echoing the African origins of gum arabic and the mineral landscapes from which it is sourced.

Beyond the rationalization of circulation and the integration of the technical and fire safety requirements specific to office design, the project places particular emphasis on shared spaces — including a large communal kitchen and dining area, informal lounges, and more private rooms dedicated to calls and focused work.

Gum Office proposes a new way of inhabiting the workplace, where efficiency, representation and conviviality coexist within a single architectural language
